Rabat- Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita on Friday held talks with the Chinese special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun to review the strategic partnerships between the two countries.
The meeting in Rabat focused on the exchange of views on topics including reinforcing relations between Beijing and Rabat. It was “friendly and fruitful”, according to Jun.
The diplomats also discussed regional and international issues, and the convergence of their views on ongoing conflicts, with the Chinese envoy, calling for “maintaining permanent contact with Morocco and coordinating positions regarding all developments at the international level.”
Both Morocco and China, for example, abstained from voting on a UN resolution in March which condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called for humanitarian aid.

Morocco and China have established strong relations, marked by growing Chinese investments in the North African country.
On January 5, the two partners signed a landmark agreement making Morocco the first African country to officially become part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The plan promotes Chinese infrastructure investments across the world, aiming to increase the country’s presence across the world.
During the signing of the agreement, the vice-chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ning Jizhe reported that direct Chinese investments in Morocco had reached MAD 3.68 billion ($380 million) in infrastructure, mobile parts, telecommunication, and fishery.
