Rabat- Morocco’s leading logistics hub, Tangier, will host the first edition of the International Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) expo in June, to promote African and international cooperation in the sector.
RWM Expo will bring together Moroccan, African, and European waste management operators and experts to discuss topics including the decarbonization of industry, recycling, green energies, and the circular economy.
Participants are expected to exchange expertise and consolidate cooperation in waste management. This will align with Morocco’s new development plan that calls for a transition to a green economy and sustainable development.
Morocco’s Energy and Mines magazine is organizing the event in partnership with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Investment Center, and the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), according to a joint press release.
Official delegations from Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and Switzerland will also participate in the event.

The Senegalese delegation will consist of the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Abdou Karim Sall, and representatives from the Department of Urbanism, Housing, and Public Hygiene.
Cote d’Ivoire’s Minister of Sanitation and Safety will also attend the expo along with operators from the public and private sectors.
The Swiss delegation will include representatives of public and private institutions such as the Federal Office for the Environment and the Geneva Environment Network.
The RWM Expo will also provide space for the display of the latest innovations in the recycling and waste management sector as well as awards to encourage local innovative efforts.
In 2016 Morocco adopted the “Zero Mika” law that banned the production and use of plastic bags in the country. This has led Moroccans to now use reusable bags or traditional shopping bags.
Three years later, Morocco launched a national beach cleaning campaign with the hashtag #beacheswithoutplastic.
Organized by Mohammed VI Foundation for the Environment, the campaign covered over 100 beaches across the country.
