Rabat – Travelers from “third countries,” referring to non-EU citizens or residents, are facing the challenge of “long waiting times” to obtain a Schengen visa.
According to Schengen Visa Info, the delay is due to “increased travel demand.”
The source added that “third-country nationals” who need visas to travel to the EU have been facing challenges due to limited “appointment slots,” that make it difficult to complete the administrative process.
Some of the EU countries with the longest waiting time include the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria.
Despite some complaints regarding France’s visa process, the European country has the “shortest waiting time,” according to o Schengen Visa Info.
The news outlet said travelers are now resorting to apply for a French visa to be able to use their Schengen status to visit other European destinations.
The process causes travelers to “spend more money as they need to first enter France and then travel to their intended destinations.”
Concerns regarding waiting times made international headlines, with reports conveying travelers’ challenges to obtaining a Schengen visa.
Earlier this week, Oman and the EU held talks that seek to introduce visa waivers for Omani citizens seeking to visit Europe.
The National reported that Omani people seeking to visit Europe “can wait up to two months to obtain the visas, making it extremely difficult to plan journeys.”
Non-EU travelers use Schengen visas for short stays to visit countries within the Schengen zone.
Schengen Visa Info said that more than 15 million travelers used their Schengen visas to travel around Europe in 2019.
