Rabat – German-Afghan mixed martial arts fighter Nasrat Haqparast said he will represent Morocco at the UFC Paris competition on Saturday, September 3.
The MMA fighter announced the news today on his social networks, indicating that his choice is due to him not being allowed to raise or show the Afghanistan flag at the competition.
“The situation in Afghanistan makes my heart bleed but our hope is only Allah,” the athlete said.
While stressing that he is proud of his country of origin, the athlete noted he was equally “very proud and honored” to represent the Moroccan flag.
He thanked Moroccans for the support they have given him, concluding: “This beautiful country [Morocco] became home to me and I’m deeply grateful for the tremendous unbelievable support.”.
The MMA fighter will fight against Canada’s John Makdessi on Saturday.
Haqparast, who fights in the UFC’s lightweight division, has won nine games by knockout and four others by decision.
