Rabat – Morocco has received the first batch of Bell-412 helicopters, a type of utility helicopter aircraft.
FAR-Maroc, a forum specialized in news about Morocco’s military reported on Saturday that the North African country received Bell 412EPI anti-submarine helicopters.
“The fleet aims to reinforce the Royal Armed Navy’s equipment,” Far-Maroc said.
Morocco ordered the aircraft fleet in 2021. In November of that year, news outlet Defensa reported that the military deal included the potential purchase of an additional 12 helicopters.
The news outlet added that the 24 new helicopters are aimed at replacing the Moroccan Air Forces’ Bell-205, Bell-206, and Bell-212 helicopters, which are about to be decommissioned.
Manufactured by US-based aerospace and defense company Bell Textron, the Bell 412EP is a twin-engine helicopter.
Morocco has been intensively upgrading its military equipment as part of the country’s commitment to contribute to boosting local and regional peace and security.
The 2022 “Global Firepower” index ranked Morocco 55th out of 140 countries in terms of military power.
