Rabat – The UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group is set to examine Morocco’s human rights record for the fourth time on November 8 in Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The session is set to be broadcasted live on the UN Web TV from 2:30 to 6 p.m. (GMT+1).
The review session coincides with the 41st session of the UPR Working Group scheduled for November 7-18. Morocco was previously reviewed by the UN body in April 2008, May 2012, and May 2017.
The review process considers the national report submitted by the Moroccan state, information contained in reports of independent human rights experts and groups, and information provided by other stakeholders including civil society groups, national human rights institutions, and regional organizations.
The review session is set to have a Moroccan delegation led by Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi. The delegation is set to respond to questions raised by three rapporteurs for the Moroccan review. The review team is composed of Cameroon, Malaysia, and Argentina.

The UPR process held its first meeting in April 2008 with the objective of following up on efforts made by the 193 UN member states to protect human rights and freedoms across the globe. The body also provides a set of recommendations to each member state that are later subject to follow-up incoming reviews.
On November 11 at 3:30 p.m. (GMT+1), the UPR Working Group “is scheduled to adopt the recommendations made to Morocco,” according to the UN.
