Rabat – Cristiano Ronaldo is allegedly close to signing a contract worth €200 million per season with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, says Spanish daily sports newspaper Marca.
On Wednesday, Marca reported that the contract is expected to last for two and half seasons while the transfer value is set to include salary and advertising deals.
Ronaldo’s alleged move to a lower competitive range from the elite European leagues to Saudi Arabia triggered mockery among football fans.
However, Marco says that “no team from the old continent comes even close to the proposal made by the Arab teams,” adding that “the MLS [American league] can’t come close either.”
As of November 3, Ronaldo’s market value is estimated at €20 million, according to data from Transfermarkt.
Al-Nassr’s interest in recruiting Ronaldo reflects the ambition of its French coach Rudi Garcia to strengthen the club’s lineup to compete against current champions of the Saudi League Al-Hilal.
On November 22, the Portuguese forward confirmed his departure from Manchester United on social media, wishing “the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
The player added that his team and Manchester “have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” adding that his love for the English club and its fans “will never ever change.”
Ronaldo is currently leading Portugal in the Qatar World Cup. The team is topping Group F with six points, ahead of Ghana with three points as well as South Korea and Uruguay with one point each.
Portugal started the competition with a 3-2 victory against Ghana before meeting with Uruguay on November 28. The match concluded with a decisive 2-0 victory in favor of the Europeans.
