King Mohammed VI Joins Fans in Rabat to Celebrate Atlas Lions’ Win

Rabat – King Mohammed VI joined the fans in Rabat to celebrate Morocco’s Atlas Lions’ win against Spain on Tuesday evening.

A viral video shows King Mohammed VI inside his car, carrying Morocco’s flag and wearing the Moroccan jersey to celebrate the Atlas Lions’ victory and qualification for the quarterfinals.

The video also shows people surrounding the monarch’s car and sharing excitement for both the win and for meeting with the monarch.

In the video, fans can be heard saying “long live King Mohammed VI” and “long live the King.”

Prior to the video, King Mohammed VI held a phone call with head of Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa, and Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui to extend his congratulations on the Atlas Lions’ win.

King Mohammed VI said that the Atlas Lions “knew how to give the best of themselves and accomplish an excellent course during this major sporting competition.”
The monarch also  commended the Atlas Lions’ performance, describing it as “historic.” 

The Atlas Lions forced Spain out of the competition after scoring three penalties against La Roja.

This is the first time for Morocco to qualify for the quarter-finals.
