Rabat – Despite his French nationality, former head coach Herve Renard is determined to cheer for Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the semi-finals against France on Wednesday.
In a statement to RMC, Renard said: “I am French, I have a French passport, but I will support Morocco.”
Renard, who coached the Atlas Lions from 2016-2019, stressed his attachment to the national team, emphasizing that he had a “fantastic adventure with a group of players and a country that loves football.”
The former head coach said the team deserves to be proud, he continued, “They have so much passion that can be excessive, but today it is an exceptional award,” he said.
This is not the first time Renard has emphasized the importance of the national team for him.
“It is a team that will stay in my heart,” he said in 2021, recalling that he spent a “great time with a great team [ in Morocco]. I have very beautiful memories.”
Renard, who now coaches Saudi Arabia, was also able to secure Morocco a spot in the World Cup 2018. The national team, however, was disqualified during the group stage.
Morocco’s national team is gaining the support of millions of fans across the world.
A large crowd of Moroccan fans will surround the football pitch at the Al Bayt stadium to remind the world how passionate Morocco is about football, especially during the semi-finals.
Morocco will play against France today in one of the much-anticipated games to determine who will join Argentina in the finals.
Morocco’s team is determined to do their best during today’s game, which will take place today at 8 p.m. Moroccan time.
Coach Walid Regragui said that Morocco wants to win the World Cup.
“I have been saying it since the start, our dream is to win the World Cup, the more we advance … the closer we approach our dream. We will fight tomorrow to go further,” Regragui told journalists in a pre-match conference on Tuesday.
