Rabat- King Mohammed VI paid a heartfelt tribute to Morocco’s national team following the semi-finals match against France on Wednesday.
The monarch held a phone call with Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui, in which he extended his thanks and tribute to the coach, players, and all contributing elements of the national team for “their brilliant achievements.”
The King also commended Regragui’s performance for having been able to instill harmony and a friendly environment within the team just a few months following his appointment.
Wishing the Atlas Lions a “full success” in their upcoming games, the monarch said the national coach honored Moroccans and the international public by the “high values” of sportsmanship and “exemplary talent.”
In addition to Regragui, King Mohammed VI also spoke to captain Romain Saiss, wishing him a speedy recovery from his injury.
The King also lauded Saiss’ leadership skills.
Morocco lost to France on Wednesday 2-0 during the World Cup semi-finals. Despite the defeat, Moroccan, Arab, and African fans all paid tribute to the Atlas Lions for their brilliant performance throughout the 2022 global tournament and thanked the national team for making them proud.
In the 2022 World Cup, Morocco’s national team became the first African and Arab country to qualify for the semi-finals.
Following its defeat, the Atlas Lions will now play against Croatia on Saturday to compete for third place.
France, meanwhile, will play against Argentina on Sunday for the final showdown.
