Morocco’s football club FAR won on Friday the Moroccan football league title, also known as the Botola Pro.
The Rabat-based football club won the game against Ittihad Tanger 3-2. The game took place in the Ibn Battuta stadium, Tangier.
FAR players had to wait until the last minute to secure their 13th title from a penalty kick.
With this victory, FAR topped the ranking of Botola, with 67 points only one point up from Wydad of Casablanca, which ended the season with 66 points following its away win over Maghreb of Fez.
This is the first time that FAR has won a league title in 15 years. The last time when the capital-based team won the title was during the 2007-2008 season). FAR is the second team with the most league titles in Morocco’s football history after Wydad of Casablanca, which won the title 23 times.
In the 1960s FAR dominated Moroccan soccer, winning the titles four times in a row, in 1960-1961, 1961-1962, 1962-1963, and 1963-1964 football seasons, in a row.
They also won three times in a row in 1966-1967, 1967-1968, and 1969-1960 seasons.
