Rabat – In a momentous and historic occasion, Morocco secured their first-ever victory at the Women’s World Cup today.
The Moroccan national team made their nation proud as they defeated South Korea in a thrilling encounter at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The game ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favor of the Atlas Lionesses, who are still determined to make history during the global tournament.
In the sixth minute of the first half, Morocco’s Ibtissam Jraidi gave the North African country a first goal through a fantastic close-range header.
The Atlas Lionesses displayed their incredible prowess, maintaining their lead in the scoreline despite the rival’s efforts and attempts to capitalize on the numerous opportunities for a draw.
Earlier, the Atlass Lionesses faced the top-ranked Group H side, Germany, to commence its World Cup action where it had lost 6 – 0.
The Atlas Lionesses’ journey to the Women’s World Cup makes the squad the first team from North Africa and the first from a majority Arab nation to make it to the tournament.
Morocco‘s participation in the women’s global tournament was highlighted by many international news outlets, including the New York Times.
Impressed by the Atlas Lionesses, The New York Times said that Morocco’s women’s football earned more visibility during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which took place last year in Morocco.
During WAFCON, Morocco’s national team secured several wins to reach the final, where it was defeated by South Africa 2-1.
