Rabat – Former U.S. President Donald Trump is once again the center of attention as he had a mugshot taken at Georgia’s Fulton County Jail, which has gone viral online, stealing space in newspapers’ front pages and social media feeds.
The picture shows Trump, now also known as inmate no. P01135809, glaring at the camera with a raised eyebrow, prompting many to deem it iconic as Trump has become the first former U.S. president to be arrested.
“It will be forever part of the iconography of being alive in this time,” the Associated Press quoted Marty Kaplan, professor at the University of Southern California, as saying.
The former president did not waste any time to capitalize on the virality of the picture, returning to his once-suspended X account to post the picture along with a link to his campaign website.
The website now prominently features the mugshot along with a message from Trump defending himself and asking for donations.
“The Left wants to intimidate YOU out of voting for a political outsider who puts the American people FIRST,” the site now says. “But today, I walked into the lion’s den with one simple message on behalf of our entire movement: I WILL NEVER SURRENDER OUR MISSION TO SAVE AMERICA.”
Trump’s account was banned in 2021 after a mob of his supporters raided the U.S. Capitol, as he was accused of inciting violence, but was reinstated after Elon Musk’s takeover of the social media platform.
“It is not a comfortable feeling — especially when you’ve done nothing wrong,” Trump later told Fox News about the mugshot.
Earlier this month, Trump and 18 of his associates were charged with racketeering due to their alleged involvement in attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.
Some of his associates, including lawyer and former New York mayor Rudy Giulliani, also surrendered earlier this week.
