Rabat – The UAE’s ambassador to Morocco,  Al Asri Saeed Ahmed Aldhaheri, has commended Moroccan authorities’ professionalism in organizing and carrying out the relief efforts to deal with the tragic aftermath of the September 8 earthquake in central Morocco.

“The work carried out by the Kingdom of Morocco was professional and colossal and could not have been accomplished without the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” the Emirati ambassador said.

The envoy also expressed deep appreciation for the message of thanks that King Mohammed VI addressed to the Emirati rescue team, which worked alongside other foreign rescue teams from Spain, the UK,and Qatar to assist the Moroccan authorities.

“All members of the Emirati team expressed their satisfaction with the work they carried out alongside with their Moroccan brothers, commending the role played by Moroccan authorities in facilitating the team’s actions on the ground,” the ambassador said.

The Emarati diplomat also reiterated his sincere condolences to the Moroccan monarch, people, and government for the loss suffered by the country in the devastating earthquake.

The strongest and deadliest earthquake to have struck Morocco over the past 120 years, the disastrous September 8 tremor has killed nearly 3000 and left  over 5,500 people with injuries of varying severity.

The situation aroused international support and solidarity with Morocco and the earthquake victims, with many countries offering assistance.

Morocco received aid and rescue teams from a number of countries, including the UAE, whose President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the establishment of an air bridge to deliver critical aid to the North African country following the earthquake.
