Rabat –  FIFA President Gianni Infantino has commended the FIFA Council’s unanimous decision to award the hosting rights of the 2030 World Cup to the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

Infantino said that the trio’s hosting of the tournament is sending a “great message of peace, tolerance, and inclusion.”

“Two continents – Africa and Europe – united not only in a celebration of football but also in providing unique social and cultural cohesion,” he underlined.

The joint Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid was selected to host the 2030 World Cup since it was the only bid in the race to host the tournament.

Besides the official hosts, the global tournament will celebrate the historical significance of the first-ever FIFA World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930 by hosting a centenary celebration ceremony in Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, where the first edition of the global tournament was hosted.

In addition, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay are set to host one match each of the World Cup 2030.

“In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will unite three continents and six countries, inviting the entire world to join in the celebration of the beautiful game, the Centenary and the FIFA World Cup itself,” added the statement.

Infanito promised a “unique global footprint” for the 2030 World Cup, underlining the unifying power of football.

In a statement from the Royal Palace, King Mohammed VI celebrated FIFA’s decision to host the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, as well as expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the Spanish and Portuguese football authorities.

The monarch acknowledged this historic step as a testament to Morocco’s rising prominence in the world of football.
