Rabat – Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib, has officially announced the issuance of the new MAD 200 banknote.

The bank said that the release of the new banknote comes in parallel with the celebration of the 80th Independence Manifesto, when Morocco celebrates the issuance of its formal manifesto calling for independence in 1944.

The central bank said on Friday that its new MAD 200 banknote aims to highlight Morocco’s economic and industrial development achieved under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.

The front of the banknote features the portrait of King Mohammed VI, as well as the Mohammed VI bridge.

The back of the banknotes, meanwhile, features the Mohammed VI Tower under construction as well as the Marrakech Menara International Airport.

The banknote also celebrates Morocco’s industrial development and digital technology.

The bank emphasized that the new banknote incorporates the “most advanced technologies” in terms of security features, including a “three-dimensional dynamic security threat,” color-changing magnetic ink, as well as front and back registration patterns, and progressive typography.

“The entire design and production process of the new series of banknotes and coins were exclusively carried out by Moroccan talents operating within Dar As-Sikkah,” the statement said, referencing the country’s printing house.

Dar As-Sikkah is responsible for all operations involved in the production of Morocco’s national biometric passport, as well as design, printing, and assembly operations.

In November 2023, the bank also issued a new series of banknotes and coins, including a new MAD 100.

The released coins also include those denoting 10 centimes, 20 centimes, half a dirham, one dirham, five dirhams, and 10 dirhams.
