Rabat – The US Department of Defense has announced that Morocco is among the beneficiaries of a contract that involves foreign military sales.
The department issued a press release on January 23, noting that Summit Technologies Inc. in Navarre, Florida received a $40 million ceiling, single-award as part of a contract for “mission planning support services”.
“This contract provides for continued mission planning support of mission planning systems consisting of UNIX-Mission Planning System, portable flight planning system, joint mission planning system, and joining precision airdrop system,” the statement said.
The technology company will carry out its work in locations worldwide, with Hill Air Force base in Utah serving as the main coordinating hub.
The work is expected to be completed by December 31 of this year, with the contract involving foreign military sales to a group of countries, including Morocco, Jordan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Qatar, Iraq, Egypt, France, and India.
It also includes Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Oman, as well as the general NATO alliance.
A recent report from the Global Firepower Index ranked Morocco 61st out of 145 countries, with a power index score of 1.0081.
Morocco has been heavily investing in its military, with remarkable purchases of advanced military technology and gear.
In recent years, Morocco purchased and ordered cutting-edge equipment from its suppliers, mainly the US, while also investing in conventional arms such as armored personnel carriers from France.
Last year, a report from the Stockholm International Peace Institute (SIPRI) ranked Morocco as the 29th largest importer of major weapons in 2022.
Morocco allocated MAD 124.7 billion or $12.88 billion to the defense industry for the year 2024, which amounts to nearly 10% of the country’s GDP.
