Rabat – Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) is reportedly gearing up for a “big” celebration to welcome Brahim Diaz, who has chosen to represent Morocco over Spain.
Renowned Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano said today that Diaz formally made his decision.
Romano added, “The federation is preparing the following steps for the next two weeks.”
On X, formerly Twitter, Romano previously confirmed Diaz’s decision to represent Morocco.
“Brahim didn’t receive any notification of a call from Spain and his decision is final, he is gonna play for Morocco,” he said.
Spanish sports news outlet Marca said on Sunday that Diaz has officially decided to play for the Atlas Lions.
The report came amid speculations and rumors.
Defensa Central website last week quoted journalist Monica Marchante who said that the Spanish federation was still planning to call up Diaz to Spain’s national team.
The news came a few days after converging reports alleged that head coach of Morocco Walid Regragui summoned the Real Madrid star as part of the pre-selected squad that will take part in upcoming friendly games with the Atlas Lions this month.
Several reports in Morocco suggested that Diaz will also join the national team in the upcoming training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale, near Rabat starting March 18 ahead of the North African country’s friendly game against Angola.
The friendly match will take place on March 22.
If confirmed, Diaz joining the Atlas Lions will be remarkable news for the national team.
