American rapper Jonathan H. Smith, better known as Lil Jon, has converted to Islam.

Lil Jon appeared in an online video reciting the Shahada (the Islamic declaration of faith) in both Arabic and English on Friday this week at a mosque in Los Angeles.

According to the Turkish news website Daily Sabah, the rapper announced his conversion to Islam in front of a large congregation.

Followed by over one million on Instagram, the rapper shared a story yesterday thanking his fans for their “outpouring love and positivity.”

Lil Jon is known for several renowned tracks and features, including Yeah by Usher featuring the rapper along with Ludacris.

He is also known for other songs, including Turn Down for What, Let’s Go, and Act a Fool.

Several celebrities and renowned people have converted to Islam in recent years.

Just this week, the prominent stem cell scientist Henry Larson announced his conversion to Islam.

The scientist’s conversion was also documented in a viral video that showed him reciting the shahada.

Shaun King, a prominent activist, equally made international headlines recently in the wake of his decision to embrace Islam during the holy month of Ramadan.

Islam is currently the second-largest religion in the world with two billion adherents. According to the World Population Review, Islam is projected to overtake Christianity as the world’s largest religion by 2050.
