Rabat – Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (Narsa) issued a statement today addressing the recent controversy surrounding the country’s newly introduced driving license exam. This comes in the wake of a near-mass failure of candidates in the exam, attributed to delays in rolling out the new question bank.

The incident led to significant frustration and concern among candidates who did not pass the exam, as well as among driving school supervisors and officials. In addition, widely circulated images showing allegedly difficult questions related to alcohol consumption during driving further fueled the controversy.

In response, NARSA said that these images were false and fabricated, emphasizing that such questions were not part of the newly implemented driving license exam. NARSA warned of potential legal action against individuals responsible for spreading misinformation on the exam content.

In regard to concerns about the alarming failure rates, NARSA reported a “very positive development” in the success rate of candidates between the first and second days since the new question bank was rolled out on March 25.

Success rates ranged between 32/40 and 39/40 for category “B” and between 38/46 and 42/46 for other categories, according to the statement.

It added that the majority of candidates achieved results close to the average success rate, with averages of approximately 23/40 on the first day and 28/40 on the second day for category “B,” and around 27/46 on the first day and 32/46 on the second day for other categories.

NARSA noted that the passing rate for the theoretical exam is 32/40 for category “B” and 36/46 for other categories.

In addition, the statement emphasized the importance of the ongoing reform, saying that it aims to adequately prepare new drivers and improve road safety. NARSA urged all driving school professionals and candidates to continue engaging in the reform process.

NARSA also called on driving institutions to accompany candidates and ensure their proper training before scheduling their exam appointments. The agency noted that it will provide driving institutions with indicators through their “Perminou” learning platform to assess the level of correct answers for registered candidates.

The agency concluded by saying that it will continue to monitor and evaluate the new theoretical exam process daily to ensure its success.
