Marrakech – Yesterday, the Storytellers Union for Cultural Innovation and the Art of Storytelling organized “Epics of Arabia” event  at Les Etoiles De Jamaa El Fna.

The inaugural event of the series spotlights Arab epics, bridging the rich storytelling traditions shared between the Arab world and Morocco.

According to a press release shared with Morocco World News (MWN), the organizers of “The Arabian Epics” storytelling evening aim to honor the universality of storytelling while fostering artistic and cultural connections between artists and the Moroccan public.

The roster of invited artists promises a rich and diverse array of talent, exemplified by figures like Zouhair Khaznaoui, proudly representing Morocco, and Sally Shalabia, hailing from Jordan.

Youssef Baklouti

Each artist brings a unique perspective and expertise to the event, enriching the cultural tapestry of the gathering.

The event’s comprehensive program extended beyond storytelling performances, encompassing workshops, masterclasses, and a panel discussion.

Held on Thursday and Friday, just two days prior to the main event, these sessions delved into various topics ranged from the intricacies of the art of storytelling to exploring the significance of oral heritage within cultural contexts.

The initiative seeks to transform Marrakech into “the world capital and the heart of storytelling,” the press release highlighted.

By spotlighting Moroccan storytellers on an international scale and fostering collaboration among artists, it aims to create a vibrant creative platform.

Additionally, through hosting international events, it aims to attract cultural tourists, while promoting intercultural cooperation and advocating for peace and coexistence through the universal language of storytelling.

The successful realization of this event was made possible through the collaboration and support of key partners, including the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and the Marrakech Municipality.

Tales across borders

“Tales Across Borders” project is a recurring series of storytelling events held throughout the year in Marrakech, which are open to everyone and admission is free.

Each month, the city plays host to renowned storytellers from different regions worldwide.

These storytellers come with a twofold mission; to explore Africa’s rich storytelling traditions, particularly those of Morocco, and to share the unique stories of their own cultures.
