Rabat – Morocco is a real hub for the potential expansion of the gaming industry in African markets, declared Sophie Zhong, Vice president of the Chinese group Century Huatong, on Saturday in Rabat.
At a press conference on the “Moroccan Gaming Expo 2024,” Zhong emphasized Morocco’s centrality as a strategic hub for the gaming industry in Africa.
The press conference presented an opportunity for the Chinese investor group to announce their intention to invest in Morocco’s gaming sector, and to discuss the potential for its development.
Highlighting Morocco’s significant infrastructure development, the head of Century Huatong Group asserted that this progress “positions the country as a veritable hub for access to African markets.”
Zhong noted to the press Morocco’s ambition to develop its gaming sector and praised its efforts and experience in the cultural and creative industry segments.
She also called for the appropriate localization of electronic industries in Morocco and across the continent, in order to foster mutual interests and promote video games, which are becoming more popular and well-received among the majority of Moroccans.
In this respect, Zhong stressed the need to take advantage of local education systems that use video games for educational purposes, noting the possibility of bringing Chinese educators to Morocco.
The first of its kind in Morocco, the gaming exposition, which ran from May 24-26 in Rabat, aimed to promote the national gaming industry and exhibit its various technical, artistic, creative, educational, and economic components.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the event served as a platform for Moroccan companies and startups, offering them the opportunity to interact with international experts in the field and establish partnerships on both a national and international scale.
The exposition was also an opportunity for passionate young entrepreneurs to strengthen ties with different actors in the industry while also promoting entrepreneurial initiatives.

According to the organizers, the event had a particular focus on promoting the Rabat Gaming City. This planned government initiative is a video game production and marketing complex, that aims to establish a cluster of national and foreign companies to create one of the largest hubs in the gaming industry of Africa and the MENA region.
Additionally, the organizers stated that the event served to consolidate links between the different players in the gaming sector, and to promote the gaming industry specifically as a source of employment and value creation for young people.
The exposition featured seminars, discussions, and training sessions led by experts. Topics covered include a discussion on the Rabat Gaming City, as well as a seminar titled “The Video Game Industry – Trends and prospects”, among others.
