Rabat- Morocco, Portugal, and FIFA have reportedly opposed Spain’s proposal to offer 13 stadiums as venues for 2030 World Cup matches, according to Spanish news reports.
This disagreement emerged during a meeting held in Agadir on June 27 -28.
Initially, Spain proposed 11 stadiums as venues to host matches during the global tournament.
However, Spain later increased its offer to 13 stadiums during recent meetings of the organizing committees’ representatives, as reported by Elbotola.
Previously, Portugal had proposed three stadiums as potential venues for hosting the World Cup, while Morocco had put forward at least six stadiums for consideration in the tournament.
Following the meeting held in Agadir, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced that discussions primarily focused on inspecting several nominated sites for hosting the competitions.
The meeting also aimed to finalize amendments and details in the joint nomination file involving the three countries, with plans to submit it to FIFA by the end of July.
The Tripartite Committee in charge of the bid also confirmed that no definitive decisions were made during its discussions regarding the selection of stadiums, their geographical distribution, or the allocation of matches among the three countries.
It stressed that any official updates on these matters would be communicated through designated official channels.
During the initial day of inspections, the delegation visited various sites including the Agadir Grand Stadium, potential venues for the FIFA Fan Festival, and training camps for participating teams.
On the second day, Friday, June 28, the delegation conducted an online meeting with FIFA to review progress in finalizing the nomination submission process.
Subsequently, the tripartite leadership committee held working sessions to discuss various aspects and refine the joint nomination file.
The committee reiterated its commitment to ongoing collaboration with FIFA and local authorities across the three countries, with the goal of presenting a strong final bid worthy of hosting the 2030 World Cup.
