Rabat – Moroccans have been following the distressing news of players from the Ittihad Tanger club, who went missing after their yacht drifted away due to strong winds in the M’diq-Fnideq region in Northern Morocco.
Reports state that the yacht had five people onboard, four being players from the Ittihad Tanger Club. The fifth was another football figure who plays for another club.
The club members reportedly jumped from the yacht for a swim when they later found their boat drifting away due to strong wind, which left them unable to return to the yacht.
Mohamed Cherkaoui, President of the Ittihad Tanger, has denied rumors regarding the death of one of the players, noting that the search and excavation operations are still ongoing.
Player Abdelhamid Maali was rescued during the search operation.
However, players Abdelatif Akhrif and Salman El Harraq are still missing.
Charkoui also called on citizens not to spread baseless news, taking into account the players’ families and their frustration.
“Pray for us, we will stay here until the morning, hoping to hear good news about the remaining missing members,” he told the press.
