Rabat – Gotion High-Tech, a leading global green energy company, has announced the appointment of Khalid Qalam as Chairman of its Moroccan subsidiary, Gotion Power Morocco SA.
This marks a pivotal moment for the company as it continues to expand its footprint in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Khalid Qalam, a dual Belgian and Moroccan national, brings over three decades of experience in the international automotive industry to his new role. His extensive career began in 1991 at Valeo, a French automotive supplier, where he managed projects for the Japanese market.
Qalam later joined Magneti Marelli, a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler, in 1997, taking on various leadership positions across Europe, including in Italy, France, and Germany.
His roles included Executive Vice President and Chief Technical & Marketing Officer, followed by a stint as President and CEO of Magneti Marelli’s operations in Mercosur, Brazil.
Qalam’s appointment, which takes effect on September 1, 2024, comes as Gotion High-Tech looks to bolster its operations in Morocco, home to the first Gigafactory in the MENA region.
Gotion High-Tech’s Chairman, Li Zhen, expressed confidence in Qalam’s leadership, highlighting his wealth of experience and prior success in the automotive sector.
“Khalid Qalam has a proven track record in driving growth and innovation,” Li stated. “His leadership will be instrumental as Gotion Power Morocco works to become a leader in the global energy and industrial landscape, with plans to expand operations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.”
Qalam will be working closely with Yang Chen, General Manager of Gotion Power Morocco, as the company continues its ambitious expansion strategy.
Gotion High-Tech sees its Moroccan subsidiary as a key player in its long-term global growth plan, particularly as demand for sustainable energy solutions accelerates.
Before joining Gotion High-Tech, Qalam also contributed significantly to the Moroccan automotive sector.
In 2015, he joined the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE) at the invitation of Minister Moulay Hafid Elalamy, where he successfully headed the automotive department and led efforts to attract international investments in the sector.
In 2020, he launched his own consulting firm, providing strategic advice to major automotive groups and government bodies.
As Gotion High-Tech pushes forward with its Kenitra Gigafactory project, Qalam’s leadership is expected to drive innovation and expand the company’s influence across key markets.
