Rabat – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced today that its athletes have made a strong showing in the nominations for the prestigious Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony, securing seven spots across various categories.
The French club is set to compete for major honors in both men’s and women’s football, with six of their top athletes nominated for individual awards, while the women’s team is in the running for Club of the Year.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 28 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Portuguese midfielder Vitinha has earned his first-ever nomination for the Men’s Ballon d’Or after an outstanding 2023-2024 season with PSG.
Vitinha played a key role in PSG’s success, scoring nine goals, and providing five assists in 46 appearances.
PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, winner of the Yashin Trophy in 2021, is once again in the running for the coveted best goalkeeper award.
The Italian star enjoyed another stellar season, playing 42 matches for the club and contributing to PSG’s domestic treble.
In addition, Young talents Warren Zaïre-Emery and João Neves are among the 10 nominees for the Kopa Trophy, which honors the best under-21 player of the season.
18-year-old Zaïre-Emery had a breakout season with PSG, featuring in 42 matches, scoring three goals, and providing seven assists.
Neves, who recently joined PSG from Benfica, is also in contention after a strong season in Portugal, followed by an impressive start in Paris with four assists in just three matches.
On the women’s side, PSG captain Grace Geyoro and striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto have both been named among the 30 nominees for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.
Geyoro, the club’s most capped player, had an exceptional season, leading her team to the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League and winning the Coupe de France.
Katoto, PSG’s all-time top scorer, made a strong return after more than a year out due to injury. She scored 20 goals in 35 matches and finished as the top scorer in the 2024 Olympic Games.
For the first time, PSG’s women’s team has been nominated for the Women’s Club of the Year award. The club highlighted the team’s strong performances in the 2023-2024 season, which saw them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League and win the Coupe de France.
PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi expressed pride in the club’s nominees, saying: “These nominations not only recognize our players’ great talent and sporting achievements, but are also a testament to the highest standards of excellence upheld across all our teams.”
