Rabat – The National Professional Football League (LNFP) and the National Association of Media and Publishers (ANME) finalized a partnership agreement in Casablanca on Tuesday evening.
The agreement was signed by the President of the LNFP, Abdeslam Belkchour, and the President of the ANME, Driss Chahtane. It is designed to boost national media coverage quality for sports events featuring Moroccan teams.
Under the agreement, ANME will collaborate with editorial directors from various media outlets to deploy National Press Council-accredited journalists, ensuring comprehensive and high-quality coverage of sports events.
ANME will also oversee that journalists operate in designated areas during local, regional, and national competitions, working closely with relevant authorities and services.
Meanwhile, the LNFP will delegate several key responsibilities to ANME, including organizing the workflow for accredited journalists, overseeing press conferences following matches, managing field access, and coordinating with photo reporters.
After the agreement was signed, a reception was held for the official delegation of Moroccan journalists who will travel to Uzbekistan to cover the Futsal World Cup, scheduled from September 14 to October 6.
A new era for Moroccan sports coverage
In his address, Belkchour said that this agreement is part of ongoing efforts to boost the role of national sports media.
He highlighted the need for Moroccan sports journalism to meet international standards and compete effectively with global media.
Belkchour also noted that the partnership strives to institutionalize and develop relations between LNFP and ANME, supporting national sports competitions and gearing up for coverage of major international events Morocco is set to host.
Chahtane, for his part, outlined that this initiative stems from an agreement involving ANME, FRMF, the relevant ministry, and the Moroccan National Olympic Committee.
Its goal is to simplify access to stadiums and sports complexes for various national championship divisions and to ensure thorough coverage of matches featuring Moroccan clubs in international competitions.
He added that Morocco’s upcoming hosting of major sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 World Cup, requires extensive preparation from the national sports media.
In June, the Moroccan Sports Press Association (AMPS) and Moroccan Games and Sports (MDJS) extended their partnership agreement, which will also play a major role in promoting national sports initiatives.
This enhanced collaboration is set to support major events such as the AFCON 2025 and the eagerly awaited World Cup 2030.
Between 2023 and 2025, around MAD 9.5 billion ($950 million) will be invested in upgrading Moroccan stadiums to meet CAF standards. A subsequent phase of renovations to align with FIFA standards will occur from 2025 to 2028, with a budget of MAD 4.5 billion ($450 million) to MAD 6 billion ($600 million).
