Rabat – In a reaffirmation of support for the Palestinian cause, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita addressed the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday.

The Moroccan Moroccan diplomat’s remarks underscored the unwavering commitment of King Mohammed VI, who serves as President of the Al-Quds Committee, to the rights of the Palestinian people.

Bourita emphasized that the Palestinian question is a top priority for Morocco, forming a cornerstone of the nation’s foreign policy.

“We stand firmly behind the Palestinian Authority in its efforts to safeguard the legitimate rights of its people,” he stated, highlighting the Kingdom’s steadfast support.

During his speech, Bourita outlined four critical priorities established by King Mohammed VI aimed at ending the cycle of Israeli violence in the region.

The foremost priority is an urgent call for de-escalation to achieve a lasting ceasefire and to ensure the protection of civilians in line with international law and humanitarian standards.

He also stressed the importance of facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to the people of Gaza, and revitalizing the political dialogue surrounding the two-state solution.

Bourita further articulated the need to preserve the character of Al-Quds, highlighting its historical and cultural significance as a center of coexistence for followers of the three major monotheistic religions.

He pointed out that maintaining the legal and demographic status of the city is crucial for fostering peace and understanding.

In addition to addressing the Palestinian issue, Bourita discussed Morocco’s commitment to South-South cooperation.

He noted that partnerships with other African nations are central to Morocco’s development agenda, focusing on strategic sectors such as food security, healthcare, and education.

Reflecting on the words of King Mohammed VI at the 13th NAM summit, Bourita reiterated the call to elevate South-South cooperation to a priority level, emphasizing the need for countries to collaborate and leverage their own resources to confront globalization challenges.

Acknowledging the unique difficulties faced by Sahel and Sahara nations, Bourita mentioned the King’s recent international initiative, launched during the 48th anniversary of the Green March.

This initiative aims to enhance access to the Atlantic for these countries, underscoring Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development in the region.

During his visit to New York, Bourita also engaged in discussions with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman.

Following their meeting, Grlic-Radman expressed shared values and mutual commitment to peace and stability, commending Morocco’s proactive role on the global stage.
