Rabat – The United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, has confirmed that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) has requested its troops to vacate specific positions near the border.
According to reports from Al Jazeera, Israel has accused Hezbollah of employing UNIFIL and local civilians as human shields, exacerbating the already fragile security situation.
In response, the UNIFIL command has stated that it will not evacuate its personnel and will continue to monitor the security landscape closely.
This development follows a significant shift in Israel’s aggression strategy, as the IOF has ordered communities north of the UN-designated buffer zone to evacuate for the first time since the conflict began.
The directive affects more than 77 towns and villages, amplifying the humanitarian crisis and raising concerns about civilian safety as IOF murderous aggression intensifies in Lebanon.
Furthermore, in a concerning development, Israel has declared UN Secretary-General António Guterres “persona non grata,” effectively banning him from entering the country.
The decision follows Guterres’ calls for a ceasefire and his condemnation of escalating violence in the Middle East.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz criticized the Secretary-General for not explicitly condemning Iran following its missile attacks on Israel, stating, “No one who cannot openly condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel deserves to set foot on Israeli soil.”
UNICEF has highlighted the catastrophic impact of the ongoing conflict on children, revealing that 690 have been wounded in Lebanon over the past six weeks.
The agency has called for an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing that many children are suffering from anxiety, flashbacks, and nightmares due to the violence. “No child should be exposed to such horrific situations,” said Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s regional director.
Additionally, Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad reported that more than 40 rescuers and firefighters have been killed by Israeli fire in just three days, while the total death toll in Lebanon has reached nearly 2,000, including 127 children.
