Doha – Gerard Piqué, former FC Barcelona defender and founder of the Kings League, has announced that Ilyas Elmaliki, the largest streamer in Morocco, will preside over the Moroccan team in the upcoming Kings World Cup Nations tournament.
Elmaliki, who boasts over 2.5 million followers, is the biggest streamer in Morocco and the third-largest in the Arab world.
The Kings League, a seven-a-side football league based in Barcelona, has garnered significant attention since its inception in 2022.
The league features unique rules, such as tie-breaker penalty shootouts, unlimited substitutions, and the use of secret weapons to add excitement to the matches.
The Kings World Cup Nations, set to take place in January 2025, will feature 16 national teams, with Morocco being the third confirmed participant after Spain and Mexico.
Wearing the Moroccan national team jersey, Elmaliki expressed his enthusiasm for leading the Moroccan team in the promotional video for the competition, stating, “We have one goal: to win and bring the title back to our people and our king. From Tangier to Lagouira, Dima Maghrib.”
The El Jadida-based streamer, born on August 8, 1996, has achieved significant success in his career, becoming the first YouTube Gaming streamer in Morocco in 2023 and currently holding the second most-watched Kick channel worldwide.
Moroccan players Nadir Louah, a defender for Porcinos FC, and Fuad El Amrani, a midfielder for xBuyer Team, have also been confirmed as part of the Moroccan squad for the tournament.
Both players, who hold dual nationality, chose to represent Morocco over Spain, citing their strong ties to their friends and family as the main reason for their decision.
The Kings League has experienced remarkable growth since its first season in 2023, attracting an average audience of 450,000 viewers per match, with peak viewership reaching 1.3 million.
The league has expanded to include a women’s competition, the Queens League, and has plans to organize tournaments in various countries, with the ultimate goal of hosting a Kings League world championship.
