Rabat – Donald J. Trump has been officially elected the 47th President of the United States.
In a nail-biting victory, the New York billionaire has now been elected to serve the American people for a second term, following his last term as the 45th President of the US.
Trump ran on a campaign similar to that in his 2016 and 2024 campaigns, focusing on immigration and policies securing the border, as well as economic nationalism, promising to bring jobs back to America and reduce dependency on foreign manufacturing.
However, his 2024 victory did not come easy. Election night presented a grueling showdown against his hard-hitting Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
However, in the end, it was Trump who made it to the 277 needed to win the presidency, bringing him – as well as his running mate J.D. Vance – to the Oval Office. In terms of the popular vote. Harris trailed behind at 224, underperforming in key swing states that her predecessor, Joe Biden, succeeded in for the Democrats in the 2020 election.
His victory puts Trump at quite the comeback – one that many critics did not think possible from a former president who four years ago contested election results and ignited a violent insurrection in the US Capitol.
The New York billionaire has still won against all odds, after being convicted of multiple felony charges and survived assassination attempts.
Trump’s “America First” appeals to the working-class voters who feel left behind by “big government” globalization and free trade agreements.
One of Trump’s major campaign promises in his 2024 campaign was to curb illegal immigration in the US, which resonated strongly with his core base. His supporters have liked Trump’s “no nonsense” style of leadership.
Celebrations are taking place across the country among his supporters’ states, including in his resident state of Florida, where a giant watch party took place to support the Republican candidate. Fox News called the results early and cheers of jubilation erupted in West Palm Beach, where excited supporters chanted“USA! USA!”
Trump himself made an appearance at his resort in Mar-a-lago where he spoke to supporters. “We made history for a reason tonight,” the politician beamed, adding that “we overcame obstacles that no one thought were credible.”
On the part of Harris, her campaign stated that she will not be attending her election night party at Howard University and will postpone her remarks. More updates are to follow as to how and when will address the country on the loss.
