Morocco and France Team Up for Greener Farming

Rabat – Morocco’s Crédit Agricole and France’s Development Agency (AFD) are pressing ahead with support for eco-friendly farming, with two parties having agreed to a €2.1 million program to support farmers adapt to climate challenges.

The support follows two earlier deals worth €70 million signed in April with a focus on saving water, managing climate change, and backing sustainable projects.

“This partnership helps Moroccan agriculture stay stronger in the face of climate change,” said Mohammed Fikrat, President of Crédit Agricole.

Quiterie Pincent, AFD’s Director in Morocco, said: “With this new support program, which partly uses resources from the Green Climate Fund, we are deepening a partnership that has been advancing for more than 10 years, helping Moroccan agriculture adapt to climate change,” Pincent argued.

The new program, whose launch was attended by French Ambassador Christophe Lecourtier, is supported by the Green Climate Fund and is part of a decade-long collaboration.

With the primary objective of providing farmers with modern tools and promoting sustainable practices, Crédit Agricole has been a key player in rural development since 1961.

Meanwhile, AFD, which is active in 150 countries, focuses on blending growth with environmental care.

According to a joint statement, this program is the latest step in the two parties’ commitment to helping Moroccan farms go green.

Last week in Rabat, Morocco and France signed two other major deals worth €150 million to support Morocco’s social reforms.

One deal, worth €100 million, seeks to improve health insurance (AMO) and promote equity. The other, worth €50 million, focuses on reducing gender inequality and empowering women.

A separate aid program, worth MAD 25 billion, will benefit four million families this year. It targets children and seniors, reducing poverty and improving lives. The programs align with King Mohammed VI’s vision and aim to help Morocco’s vulnerable populations.
