A violent attack in Nioro du Sahel, a town in Mali, lightly affected two Moroccan trucks as terrorists targeted several points in the city, not far from the Mauritanian border.
A source from the Moroccan embassy in Bamako said all Moroccan truck drivers in Nioro are safe, noting that only a few trucks were slightly damaged during the attack.
The Moroccan truck drivers left the city and reached their destination, the source told Le360.
The news outlet said terrorists attacked several key locations in the city of Nioro du Sahel on the night of Monday to Tuesday.
“The terrorists, who infiltrated the city in large numbers with internal accomplices, targeted key points in the city,” the news website Le360 quoted the Malian army’s general staff as saying.
The attack targeted the governor’s office and a park where goods land from abroad, particularly through Mauritania.
“No injuries were reported among the Moroccan truck drivers,” the source said, noting that trucks were slightly damaged but resumed their journey and they are already in Kati, a town 15 kilometers from Bamako.
Moroccan trucks extend their journey to include other African borders, supplying different markets, including the Malian market, with vegetables, fruits, fish, and other products through Mauritania.
Morocco has been renewing its commitment to continue to boost counterterrorism efforts as well as all other forms of criminal activities.
In recent years, the country has consistently called for a shared responsibility to address terrorism threats across the world – particularly in the Sahel.
