Rabat – Morocco’s weather is set to experience a cold spell from Wednesday to Friday, with temperatures ranging from -08 to 09°C.

The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) issued today an “orange” alert for the period, warning of snowfalls starting Friday and continuing into Saturday, particularly at higher altitudes above 1400 meters.

Minimum temperatures will dip to between -08 and -02°C in several provinces, including Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Figuig, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Taroudant.

Maximum temperatures will vary between 00 and 06°C during this period.

In other regions, such as Jerada, Taourirt, and parts of Guercif and Taza, minimum temperatures will range from -04 to 01°C, while maximum temperatures are expected to fall between 03 and 09°C.

The provinces of Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Zagora, Errachidia, Tiznit, and Tata will also see similar conditions.

Cities like Oujda, Driouch, Casablanca, Mohammedia, and Marrakesh will experience more moderate temperatures, with minimums ranging from -01 to 04°C.

The weather system will bring major snowfall, with accumulations of 15-30 cm expected in higher areas, including Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taourirt, Figuig, Jerada, Boulemane, Sefrou, Ifrane, Taza, and Midelt.

Morocco has been grappling with unusually cold temperatures, with many regions experiencing a sharp drop in warmth. From the northern mountains to the southern plains, recent weather warnings repeatedly flagged several areas under “orange” alerts for low temperatures and snowfalls.

The cold front caused temperatures to plummet well below freezing in some places, affecting daily life and travel, particularly in higher altitudes.
