New Delhi –  The Maghreb Photography Awards (MPA) is organizing an annual International Photographic Competition.

Open to all nationalities, the MPA aims to gather photo projects realized in Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.

Through the competition, photographers will have the opportunity to be rewarded by professionals and have their work exposed to a global audience.

The MPA creates new opportunities for showcasing the best photographic work of member countries. It also introduces leading talents to the world of contemporary photography.  The MPA’s hope is to celebrate creativity and ambition, helping participating artists to develop and present their work.

Souhyal A, founder of the Maghreb Photography Awards, explained his motivation for starting the festival: “From the past 10 years photo competitions have been going on all over the world, it became clear to me that the Maghreb cannot stay behind, not having its own International photo competition. So I started to work on the Maghreb Photography Awards, the contest will not just remunerate the winners; but also provide them with opportunities and a platform to exhibit their work in their own countries and worldwide.”

The annual competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike. The three overall winners, category winners and those who are commended will have their work showcased to a global audience.

Winners will be recognized and their portfolio will be showcased internationally by the MPA’s media partners across the world. A total of $1500 will be given to top three winners.

Winners of the Best Photo Project Around the Maghreb and The Maghreb Photographer of the Year will take home $500 cash prize each and projection of the photography projects at photo festivals of Les Nuits Photographiques d’Essaouira, Les Nuits Photographiques de Pierrevert and Présence photographique Montélimar.

The Emerging Talent of the Year awardee will receive a $250 Cash Prize. All the winners will be published in a photo book dedicated to the Photography of Art and Author. The contest has been underway  since February 1, and photographers have been submitting their best shots. The last date of submission for photo projects is May 30. Until then, the website is open to submissions. The names of the winners of these prestigious awards will be announced on July 30.The competition’s categories include Architecture, Editorial, Fine Art, Nature, People, Documentary and Travel.

The panel of jury will consist of various experts in Maghrebi photography and art scenes, including Souhayl A., International Photographic Festivals founder Stephane Kossman, and historian of photography Marie Moignard.
