Rabat – As Americans welcomed their 45th president to the white house, the inauguration festivities took on a more serious tone.

The shock of a Trump presidency gave vent to more sober and resigned spirits, marches, riots, and the grief of loss.

Eight years after taking the oath of office himself, former President Barack Obama departed Washington with his wife Michelle, leaving the White House and the nation’s leadership in the hands of a man with a very different vision for America.

Feeling wistful, even Obama could not hide his sadness when asked by a reporter if he was feeling nostalgic, “of course,” he said. He wasn’t the only one. Many of his supporters, especially celebrities, took to social media to say goodbye to Barack and Michelle Obama and pay tribute to the president they loved so much.

On an Instagram post, Rihanna shared an older picture of a smiling young Obama, posing for the camera wearing a “Supremes” t-shirt, captioned “worst breakup ever.”

Not to be outdone, many other celebrities paid tribute to the former president.

Beyonce chose a picture of the historic First couple in an intimate embrace, side by side as they’ve always been, a simple “thank you” captioned under the warm image.

Kim Kardashian and her family had the honor of meeting President Obama, and proudly shared several snaps on Instagram with this message of thanks; “Thank you Mr. President. You will be missed!”

Leonardo DiCaprio also got in on the action, sharing an image of Obama standing on a beach. “Thank you @BarackObama for the incredible work you’ve done to protect our planet during your presidency,” the Titanic star wrote. “I look forward to your continued work with the #ObamaFoundation.”
