Rabat – Andre Azoulay will represent Morocco in the funeral of former Israeli president Shimon Perez’s on September 30.
Israel’s ninth president, Shimon Perez died after a major stroke last Wednesday at the age of 93. The Israeli news source, Times of Israel, reports that Morocco has confirmed its presence at Perez’s funeral on Friday, September 30. The same source adds that Andre Azoulay King Mohammed VI’s advisor will represent Morocco at the event.
A number of countries’ representatives and political leaders will be attending the funeral. These leaders are said to include U.S. President Barrack Obama, UK’s Prince Charles, France’s President Francois Holland, Germany’s President Joachim Gauck, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ten other heads of states will be present.
Anadolu Agency lists all the 37 countries that will be represented at the Perez funeral. These countries include: Austria, Australia, Ukraine, Italy, Britain, the United States, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Holland, India, Hungary, Zambia, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Serbia, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, France, Canada, Cyprus, Croatia, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Norway, and Morocco.
The Arabic news website, Qushq points out that Morocco’s participation in this event raises questions pertaining to Morocco’s involvement with Israel, considering that the two countries do not officially normalize with each other.
President Perez immigrated with his family to Palestine from Poland at the age of 11. He won the Nobel Prize in 1994.
