Rabat  – The Central Bureau for Judiciary Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance, dismantled on Wednesday a terrorist cell made up of three people linked to ISIS and operating in the cities of Oujda, Casablanca and Fez, said the Interior Ministry.

The cell includes the brother of a former fighter on Syrian-Iraqi soil, who is currently serving a prison sentence under the terrorism Act, the same source added.

This operation revealed several dangerous terrorists projects in advanced stages of preparation in close coordination with members linked to Daech supporters on the Syrian-Iraqi soil, which targeted sensitive and vital sites in the cities of Oujda, Saidia, Fez and Debdou (province of Taourirt), the Ministry said in a statement.

To carry out this terrorist plan, the cell’s leader rent a “safe hideout” near the city of Oujda to house members of the cell and to prepare and manufacture remotely controlled explosives, the same source added.

The search of the hideout resulted in the seizure of quantities of chemical products that could be used in making explosives, in addition to two bottles containing suspicious liquids and mineral powder, pressure cooker, electrical wires, a quantity of nails, an ammeter, plastic pipes, knives and axes, and a drawing of “Daech” flag. All these products will be submitted to the scientific expertise of the relevant services, the Ministry noted.

The cell members planned to join Daech in Libya via the eastern borders of Morocco, after carrying out their terrorist project in the Kingdom, said the Ministry, adding that the suspects will be brought to justice after the completion of the probe led under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
