Rabat – The terrorist group known as ISIS has claimed responsibility for the mass shooting in a Florida gay club that left 50 people dead and more than 53 wounded.

In addition to December’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, for which ISIS also claimed responsibility, and the July 2015 shooting spree in Chattanooga, Tennessee by a Muslim man, the perception may be that an epidemic of attacks on the U.S. by radical Islam has arose.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump sought to capitalize on the mass shooting reiterating his controversial call for a temporary ban on Muslim migration to the United States.

However, data put together by the Washington Post shows that of the dozens of mass shootings that have taken place in America since 2014, in which three or more victims died, only three could be associated with radical Islam.

Using data from the Gun Violence Archive on mass shooting incidents since November 2014, The Washington Post’s created a map of those mass shootings in which three or more people were killed. The map also divides the tragedies by the shooters’ motivations: radical Islam, some other political stance such as race or anti-abortion, or no apparent political stance.

What is also clear from the map is that once the attacks in Orlando are conclusively identified as linked to radical Islam, such attacks have been far deadlier than most.

The suspected gunman, Omar Mateen, was an American who declared allegiance to the Islamic State and was the son of an immigrant from Afghanistan. Mateen opened fire inside a crowded gay bar and dance club early Sunday leaving 50 people dead and 53 injured in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, authorities said.
