Heavy flooding in Valencia, Spain, claimed the lives of at least 100 people, including one confirmed Moroccan national.

A source from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the news today, saying that it is yet for the Spanish authorities to disclose identities and nationalities of the victims.

“It is noted that the Spanish authorities have yet to disclose the identities and nationalities of the victims until confidentiality is lifted after identifying all the deceased,” the authorized source told Morocco World News (MWN).

The source however said that the consulate is contacting the Moroccan victim’s family, expressing readiness to provide all necessary support during this time.

One Moroccan is also injured with minor wounds, while 25 missing cases have been reported.

The consulate is actively engaged and in constant communication with the relevant Spanish authorities to ascertain their whereabouts and ensure their safety, the source added.

Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry also took a series of measures to assist the Moroccan diaspora in Valencia.

The ministry activated a crisis cell upon learning of the tragedy, including representatives from different departments as well as from the consulate in Valencia.

The monarch also sent his condolences to the Spanish government and the victims’ families.

“In these sad and painful moments, we express to Your Excellency our most sincere condolences and our feelings of compassion and solidarity,” the monarch said on Wednesday.
