Prehistoric remains of apparently two lovers holding hands were found in the inner courtyard of a former Dominican monastery in Romania.
Archeologists were allegedly stupefied at the sight of the two skeletons lying adjacent to each other, still holding hand in hand since their burial a hundred thousand years ago.
According to British newspaper Daily Mail, The two skeletal remains that were dug out by experts from the Institute of Archaeology in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, were identified as pertaining to a couple that lived in the prehistoric era recognized as ancient Rome.
After such astonishing discovery, the prehistoric couple was described as that of the “Romanian Romeo and Juliette,” two universally solemnized lovers that the world came to know via Shakespeare’s tragedy, Romeo and Juliette.
“Such discovery is so puzzling,” shared Adrian Rousseau, the leader of the archeological research project, according to Daily Mail. “It was quite rare at that time to have a couple buried in such a way,” he added.
The research team also reported that they have found out, after examing the delicate remains, that one of the male’s legs was broken. The discoverers also stated that the cause of his death was incessant “fierce beating” by a “callous individual.”
Such a discovery has apparently reached the hearts of millions of lovers worldwide, inducing them to aspire for such a utopian, sempiternal manifestation of love.
