Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Intensifies as Israeli Bombings Kill 10

Rabat – The Israeli Occupation Forces’ genocidal campaign in Gaza has reached new heights of devastation as bombings in Gaza City and Rafah today killed at least 10 people and left dozens more injured, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The agency reported that eight individuals were killed and several others wounded when IOF targeted the Ibn al-Haytham School in the Shujayea neighborhood, east of Gaza City, with a missile. Injured victims were rushed to the nearby al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital.

In a separate incident, two people were killed and at least 10 others injured when an IOF drone struck a vehicle on a road in the al-Mawasi area, opposite the Red Cross field hospital in Rafah.

As Israel escalates its war on Gaza, humanitarian organizations are sounding the alarm. Fifteen international groups, including Oxfam, Christian Aid, Islamic Relief, and Save the Children, have joined forces to urge the global community to press the Israeli government into agreeing to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

In a letter released ahead of this week’s UN General Assembly meeting in New York, these organizations highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the conflict.

They reported that essential supplies such as food, medicine, and fuel have been systematically blocked for nearly a year, with 83% of needed food aid failing to reach Gaza.

This represents a significant increase in aid shortages compared to 2023, leading to a severe reduction in daily food intake for Gazans.

Jolien Veldwijik, CARE’s director in the West Bank and Gaza, described the situation as “catastrophic,” emphasizing that the crisis predates the recent escalation and has deteriorated further.

Amjad Al Shawa, Director of the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO), echoed these concerns, noting a critical shortage of humanitarian items and stating that “100% of the population depends on aid.”

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported a staggering new death toll of 41,272 in the Palestinian territories since the onset of the war. At least 20 more Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours alone, with 95,551 people injured in the Gaza Strip since October 7.

In the face of Gaza’s worsening humanitarian disaster, the 15 agencies have called for compliance with the International Court of Justice’s recommendations, demanding an end to the Israeli siege of Gaza and adherence to the ICJ’s advisory opinion on ending the occupation of Palestinian territories.
