Taarabt says he won’t play with the Atlas Lions at the African Cup of Nations

Rabat – Moroccan International player and midfielder of Queen Park Rangers said on Monday that he would not join the Moroccan national team that will take part in the African Cup of Nations due to take place on January 17 in South Africa.

Since Friday, there has been a pervasive rumor that Taarabat was not going to play with the Atlas Lions at the continental competition.

Speaking to the Casablanca-based Radio Mars on Monday, the midfielder said that he would not “accept to participate with the Moroccan national team in the African Cup of Nations under the supervision of a coach who does not communicate well,” noting that he will not accept to be the sole cause of the problems of the Atlas Lions.

“I learned that Taoussi met with Ahmadi and Saidi. I received a text message (SMS) three weeks ago from the national coach. As I did not know the source of the message, I called the number and found out that it was Taoussi, who told me that he would contact me within twenty minutes. I waited the whole day without receiving any phone call,” Taarabt said.

Taarabt received a phone call and a text message from Rachid Taoussi, who was on a trip in Europe, but he refused to answer him.

“Taoussi called me three days ago and did not answer him, then I received a text message in which he told me that he wants to meet me, but I did not want to answer him nor to meet him,” he added.
