Paris, March 7, 2012 (MAP)

The contribution of Morocco, the unique Arab non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to efforts to end Syrian people tragedy, is “crucial,” French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé said.

“I can tell you that the voice of Morocco is heard and respected in New York”, he affirmed in an interview with MAP.

The Kingdom has been at “the forefront of efforts of the Council’s vast majority to adopt a resolution supporting the Arab League’s plan to end the tragic conflict in Syria,” the diplomat added, regretting that the veto of two permanent members (China and Russia) has not enabled this initiative to succeed.

Juppé said that the French-Moroccan cooperation is permanent in New York. “I wish that Paris and Rabat continue to work together closely within the Security Council, in other UN forums, and now within the Group of Friends of the Syrian People.”

“Our dialogue- that goes beyond the only subjects related to the Arab world- has as always been close, confident and effective and it will continue,” he stressed.
