Join on Telegram Rabat – Moroccan Paralympic athletes have arrived in Paris to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, set to take place from August 28 to September 8. The delegation landed at Paris’s Orly Airport today.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will feature para-athletes from 182 countries competing in 22 sports. Morocco will be represented by 38 athletes competing in events such as para athletics (), wheelchair tennis, para-powerlifting, para-taekwondo, para-road cycling, and goalball.
Mustapha Fkeoui, Secretary General of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPSH), expressed the team’s ambitious goals for the Games. “In Paris, our aim is not just to participate but to win as many medals as possible,” he told MAP.
Fkeoui highlighted the high level of performance expected from the athletes. “These are elite athletes who are already decorated champions, and we aim not only for medals but also to set world records,” he added.
Azzedine Nouiri, a Moroccan Paralympic champion in shotput, is competing in his fourth Paralympic Games. He expressed his determination to produce a strong performance, saying, “This is my fourth participation in the Paralympics, and I am determined to achieve new personal bests and to stand on the podium again, as I have in previous editions.”
Meanwhile, Najwa Awane, a wheelchair tennis champion, expressed her excitement about the Games. “It’s a dream come true! Thanks to my African Championship title, I am competing in the Paralympics. We have trained extensively and will give our all to achieve the best possible results,” she said.
The Moroccan delegation includes 85 members, composing of the 38 athletes, as well as technical, administrative, logistical, and medical staff.
Since its debut at the Paralympic Games in Seoul 1988, Morocco has earned a total of 38 medals, including 16 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
