Bamako – India hosted the 3rd Voice of the Global South Summit on August 17, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration among developing nations.

Spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi, the virtual summit brought together 123 countries including Morocco.

The event was guided by India’s long-held philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” meaning “The World is One Family,” a concept central to the summit’s mission of promoting unity and cooperation among the Global South.

In a press release, the Indian Embassy in Morocco emphasized that this initiative is a testament to India’s commitment to amplifying the voices of developing nations.

“This unique initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is underpinned by India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which means ‘The World is One Family.’ The summit envisages bringing together countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform across a whole range of issues,” the embassy stated.

The summit, themed “An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future,” featured a series of Leaders’ and Ministerial sessions.

These discussions addressed some of the most pressing challenges facing developing countries today, including conflicts, food and energy security, and the increasingly severe impacts of climate change.

The summit expanded on dialogues from previous editions, reinforcing the Global South’s commitment to addressing these issues collaboratively. The discussions were particularly focused on finding solutions that cater to the developmental needs of the Global South, an area where disparities remain stark compared to the Global North.

Morocco played a pivotal role in the summit, reflecting its dedication to advancing South-South cooperation.

Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, represented the North African country in the Energy Ministers’ session. Her participation underscored Morocco’s proactive stance on global energy and environmental challenges.

“Morocco’s participation in the Voice of the Global South Summit hosted by India highlights both countries’ commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation and addressing shared global challenges faced by the Global South,” the embassy added.

This summit not only reinforced the importance of collaboration among developing nations but also underscored India’s leadership in creating platforms where the Global South can voice its concerns and aspirations.

As the world grapples with complex challenges that disproportionately affect developing countries, the Voice of the Global South Summit continues to serve as a critical forum for these nations to advocate for their interests and forge collective solutions.
