Rabat – A Moroccan national citizen subject to an international arrest warrant that the North African country issued has been apprehended in southeast Spain.

According to Spanish media reports on Sunday, Spanish authorities claimed to have detained this wanted Moroccan fugitive.

The individual is sought for his alleged involvement in a criminal organization that conducts human trafficking related to illegal immigration.

Reports claim that the arrest was carried out by agents from the Central Narcotics Brigade Unit (UDYCO) in Alicante, Spain, who were alerted to the presence of the wanted individual in the town of Vega Baja de Dolores.

A search operation was quickly organized, leading to the apprehension of the fugitive in an industrial area of the town.

“After setting up a search device, [the UDYCO] managed to locate him in an industrial estate in La Marina,” the Spanish TodoAlicante news outlet reported.

Following his arrest, the 33-year-old Moroccan has been handed over to the Alicante court for further legal proceedings.

This is one of many accounts of successful collaborations between Morocco and Spain in the realm of security operations.

In July this year, a collaborative operation between Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the Spanish Civil Guard Intelligence Service led to the arrest of eight individuals reportedly radicalized by ISIS.

The coordinated effort resulted in detentions across multiple locations, including the Spanish enclave of Melilla and cities such as Madrid and Malaga.
