Rabat – The police in Tangier arrested on Tuesday a 58-year-old man suspected of fraud, forgery, and using falsified documents.

The man came to the attention of the local police after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of deceiving her by claiming he could secure an official document required for a residency certificate.

According to a security source, an investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect.

A police search of the man’s apartment yielded 942 pieces of identification, eight passports in various names, photographs, and copies of administrative documents, among others.

The bulk of the documents raised suspicions regarding the extent of the man’s activities and possible connections with a bigger network.

The suspect allegedly exploited the bureaucratic procedures to tamper with the official documents for financial benefits.

The case notes the ongoing challenges in combating fraudulent schemes that target individuals in need of administrative services.

As for the suspect, he remains in police custody under judicial supervision as investigators try to ascertain the extent of his activities.

The case falls under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, which seeks to shed light on all the circumstances of the event and ascertain whether other perpetrators are involved.

The arrest is part of Morocco’s long struggle to combat document-related frauds and safeguard citizens against such instances.
