Join on Telegram Rabat — King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences and sympathy to US President Joe Biden over the death of former US President Jimmy Carter.
In the message, the King expressed his “great sadness” at the passing of Carter, describing him as “a man of reconciliation and dialogue,” and paid tribute to his enduring legacy.
The monarch extended his sincere condolences and deep sympathy to Biden, the former president’s family, and to American people, recalling the official visit made by his father King Hassan II to the US at the invitation of the late Jimmy Carter.
“The meeting held on this occasion reaffirmed the depth and breadth of the long-standing relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America,” the King wrote in his message, noting that the meeting also demonstrated the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The US and Morocco share good diplomatic ties and maintain close relations, particularly in areas such as security and trade.
Security cooperations remains a key pillar of their bilateral ties, with both countries working together on counterterrorism efforts and other shared security concerns.
Trade ties are also vital, with the US Morocco Free Trade Agreement known as FTA signed in 2004, coming into effect in 2006.
The agreement was designed to eliminate trade barriers and expand commercial opportunities for US exports to Morocco.
Ties between the two countries have only grown, particularly after the US’ decision to recognize Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
The move strengthened Morocco-US ties and solidified their growing partnership across different sectors.
In a notable point in history, Morocco was the first country in the world to recognize US independence in December of 1777, two months before France.
