Rabat– Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has forecast rain and snowfall across several regions of Morocco. Despite a strong anticyclone covering Morocco, much of Western Europe, and North Africa, an upper-level “cut-off” depression is affecting the atmosphere’s higher layers.

Accompanied by cold air masses, this weather system is expected to bring moisture to the northwest of Morocco and the Atlas Mountains, leading to localized and light precipitation beginning Thursday, which may last until the end of the week.

Temperatures are expected to drop, particularly inland and in the mountainous regions, with a risk of frost near the mountains. Snowfall is also expected at higher elevations, particularly on the peaks of the Middle Atlas exceeding 1,900 meters.

Light or scattered rain is expected to start in the regions of Tangier, Loukkos, western Rif, and the western Mediterranean coast. Overnight, the rain should extend to the Gharb, western Saïss, Oulmès, central Rif, and the Atlantic plains between El Jadida and Casablanca.

Friday is predicted to bring cold weather, especially in the Atlas mountains and the southern Oriental region, where morning frost is expected. Scattered rain is set to affect the southern Rif, Gharb, Saïss, Oulmès, and the Atlantic plains between Casablanca and Safi. This rainy weather is a result of the infiltration of cold polar air masses.

As temperatures continue to decline throughout the week, cold weather is expected to persist on Saturday and Sunday, with significant chilling effects across the country. The Atlas Mountains and the southern Oriental region is predicted to experience localized frost, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours.

Snowfall is anticipated on the peaks of the High Atlas, with accumulation at higher elevations. Additionally, rain or showers should affect the High and Middle Atlas and their adjacent regions, contributing to the colder conditions and further intensifying the wintry weather.
